SLOSC Teams Have Strong Showing At Eagles Classic

June 14, 2009. San Luis Obispo Soccer Club traveled to the Eagles Premier SC Summer Classic June 13 & 14 competing in over 30 matches over the two day tournament held in Ventura and Camarillo. We traveled with 10 Teams (six girls and four boys teams) to the prestigious challenge cup.

Headlining the boys side was the U9 FIRE Red and head coach John Gaydos, going
3-0-1 and taking home the Silver Cup. The "Reds" got through on a semi final PK shootout, winning 1-0 (3-1 PKs) over Valley United and took the ensuing championship match with a hard fought 1-0 win vs Santa Clarita United.

Gabe Rojas got the match winner in the final. All-Tournament and Most Outstanding Player Honors went to Orion J Schwellenbach. Congratulations lads!

The boys U17 FIRE Black had a fantastic tournament run, surging to the championship match with a thrilling 1-0 win vs Arsenal and then losing to eventual champ Oxnard Wave 1-0 as the Wave (U18 Coast Premier) converted a free kick in the last five minutes of regulation. According to Head Coach Bobby Galarneau, "the boys played some fantastic futbol, with great shape and intensity!"

On the girls side, the U13 STORM Black were finalists in the Silver Division, going 2-0-1 en-route to the championship game, where they were bested by the Red Rockets SC. Helmed from the outset by head coach Dan Bryden and assistant Craig Winninghoff, the girls laced 13 tallies into the old onion sack! The STORMers were led by Midfielder Ellie Shields and Center Back Emma Hollister.

The girls U14 STORM Black, playing in their inaugural tournament, finished in third place at 2-2-0. Goalkeeper Mari Stewart was stellar throughout, and midfielders Brady Candaele & Christine Freberg led the attack.

A big congratulations goes out to all SLOSC teams competing in the 2009 Eagles Classic, playing with pride and a true commitment to attacking futbol. Others traveling included: GU9 STORM White, GU9 STORM Red, GU10 STORM Red, BU11 FIRE Black, BU14 FIRE Black, and GU17 STORM Black.
