Estero Whirled Terns take Gold!

The San Luis Obispo County Women's 50+ Soccer Team, Estero Whirled Terns took home the Gold at the 2009 National Senior Games held at Stanford University. The team includes eight women from San Luis Obispo County, and is coached by San Luis Obispo Women's Soccer League President, Schmia Nolan.

The team was victorious over California Down Under in the championship game after having lost to this same team earlier in the double elimination tournament.

San Luis Obispo Women's Soccer League is for women 18 and over who want to have fun and get into shape playing soccer! Experienced or first-time players are welcome. SLOWS was founded in January 2001. SLOWS also directs the annual FIRECRACKER INVITATIONAL tournament every summer. This tournament welcomes adult women's teams from all over the country. The tournament benefits a local educational scholarship to those pursuing higher education.The scholarship committee awarded $6000 in scholarships this year!

Senior Coral Hoover Wins Big West Honors

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Cal Poly senior goalie Coral Hoover was named the Big West Athlete of the Week when she recorded two shutouts this past weekend. Hoover, from Corralitos, CA, recorded back-to-back shutouts on the road over Air Force and Colorado College. Against Air Force, Hoover faced 20 shots, recording eight saves. Mustangs Wrap Road Trip at Stanford, California

The Cal Poly men’s soccer team continues its season-long, three-match road trip at the Sept. 11 and 13 California Legacy Classic, jointly hosted by Stanford (1-1-0) and California (1-1-0). The two-match series opens Friday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Cardinal’s Laird Q Cagan Stadium. Two days later at 2 p.m., the Mustangs (0-2-0) face California at Goldman Field at Edwards Stadium. The Mustangs are in search of both their first victory and goal of the 2009 campaign, after late strikes by UNLV on Sept. 1 and No. 2 Creighton on Sept. 5 handed Cal Poly consecutive 1-0 defeats during the opening week of the season. Stanford leads the series against Cal Poly, 2-1, though the sides haven’t met in 10 years. The Cal Poly-California series is drawn, 2-2-1, with the last meeting a 4-0 victory by the Golden Bears in 2001. GameTracker for Cal Poly’s match at Stanford is available via gopoly.com.

Cal Poly Men's Soccer Tonight

Cal Poly takes on UNLV tonight at 7pm in their season opener. The game kicks off at Alex G. Spanos Stadium at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets for all Cal Poly athletics contests can be purchased online at gopoly.com. Select the “TICKETS” link on the left side of the home page or call (805) 756-5806. The ticket office is located in front of the Cal Poly Recreation Center at the corner of South Perimeter and Via Carta. Office hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
