Two first half goals by Utah downed the Mustangs

Two first half goals by Utah downed the Mustangs 2-0 as Utes outshot the Mustangs 21-5 and dropped the Mustangs to 0-2 for the season while Utah improved to 4-0.Utah got on the board in the 25th minute of play as Jen Christoffers collected a failed clearance attempt at the top of the penalty box by the Mustang defense and dribbled in, untouched, past the keeper from just a few yards out giving Utah a 1-0 lead.Just over five minutes later, sophomore forward Erin Dalley gave the Utes a 2-0 lead as she scored her first goal of the season. The Cal Poly goalkeeper, Brooke Gauvin, cleared the ball, but it fell right to a wide open Dalley about 25 yards out. She settled the ball, took a touch and drilled a shot into the upper right corner. No Mustang had more then one shot with only three shots on goal. Utah fired off 21 shots, nine on goal with Gauvin recording seven saves. Cal Poly was outshot 13-2 in the first period and 8-3 in the final half. Cal Poly returns to action on Friday, Sept. 4 at 7 pm when the team hosts Seattle at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
